History
Living in Périgord means immersing yourself in a region steeped in history. The landscape is dotted with medieval castles, fortified towns, ancient churches, and archaeological treasures. Most notably, the prehistoric caves of Lascaux—often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistory”—are a powerful reminder that this region is considered the birthplace of human civilisation. Every corner of Périgord tells a story, offering a deep and tangible connection to the past.
Art & Culture
Especially in the summer months, the region comes alive with music, theatre, and cultural festivals that celebrate both tradition and creativity. For generations, this picturesque and inspiring area has drawn artists and artisans from around the world to create, exhibit, and find new inspiration. At Château de Monboucher, we are proud to continue this legacy through our Artist in Residence programme—supporting contemporary artists and enriching our community with dynamic cultural experiences.

Golf
Only 15 minutes from the estate is the prestigious Château des Vigiers golf resort, offering a championship course, spa, and fine dining in a picturesque setting.
Inspired Living
Renowned author and historian Martin Walker made the Périgord his home in 1999. His best-selling Bruno – Chief of Police crime novels—translated into 18 languages—draw directly from the region’s rich culture and characters, capturing its enduring charm.
