The Story

When Axel and Carole first came to Monboucher, their immediate concern was to preserve the buildings, the park and the distinctive character of the estate. What followed was a long process of restoration, involving countless practical decisions and a continuing respect for what was already there.

Over time, however, the project developed into something more than the restoration of a château.

The idea was never to live alone behind the gates of a large estate. Nor was it to create a hotel, with owners on one side and guests on the other.

Instead, Monboucher is being shaped as a small international residential community: a place where people can live independently, for a season or for many years, while sharing the advantages of an exceptional setting.

Privacy remains essential. Community is available, but never imposed. Residents have their own homes and their own lives, while the park, cultural activities and shared spaces create natural opportunities for conversation, friendship and collaboration.

Axel and Carole initiated the project and will remain its principal co-owners during the years in which the residences gradually find their future owners. Their intention is not to direct Monboucher from a distance, but to live there among fellow residents and co-owners—as neighbours and partners in the continuing care of the estate.
